More than two years after adopting its ambitious Climate Action Plan, The City “has taken care of a lot of the low-hanging fruit” while the hard work remains
“We’ve taken care of a lot of the low-hanging fruit,” San Francisco Environment Department Director Tyrone Jue told The Examiner during Earth Month and ahead of The City’s own Climate Week, which concludes Saturday. “Now we’re getting into this next phase, the more challenging part.”
Last month, San Francisco announced a plan to install 5,000 curbside electric-vehicle chargers citywide by 2030. The pilot program, still in the data-collecting stage, is an effort to eliminate one of the biggest barriers to EV adoption. Many San Franciscans don’t have access to chargers because they either live in multifamily homes or in neighborhoods that lack charging infrastructure.

Yes SF, a World Economic Forum program, is backing 14 environmentally focused startups to help revitalize downtown San Francisco Jue maintained that the Environment Department has a “great working relationship with all of our city agencies” who collectively remain on the same page of the Climate Action Plan, which was adopted by multiple city departments, not just Jue’s.
Electrifying homes has emerged as a top priority for The City because it will drastically reduce carbon emissions and eliminate dangerous, cancer-causing chemicals — mainly nitrous oxide — emanating from gas-powered appliances and lingering in homes.
