The 37-year-old was a bonfire builder in the Tiger's Bay area during his childhood
Carl Frampton has spoken out against burning the tricolour and effigies on bonfires. The former professional boxer from North Belfast was speaking ahead of his appearance at a cultural convention discussing topics affecting the unionist community including bonfires, policy, marching bands, and the arts.
"I definitely think there's good work being done in the community to try and make the bonfires a bit more of a family friendly event. There's obviously a bit of bad press around what goes on, but if you delve into it, it's more about a celebration rather than trying to be offensive or offend anybody."
"You get a bad rap straight away for doing that. Even burning the tricolour on top of the bonfire, you're burning another nation's flag, I don't think that should happen either.
