The SEC's contract with the Hoover Met ends after next season for a baseball tournament its hosted since 1998. The league should keep the games in Hoover, a place famous for its ballpark atmosphere and the bands of lightly-supervised children running wild on the hills in the outfield.
You see them every late May, the week before Memorial Day unofficially kicks off summer.Who am I to say they’re up to no good, but it’s more than fair to say the potential exists.
Hoover was once the annual home of SEC football media days before it became a roadshow a few years ago. It was last held in the Hyatt attached to the Riverchase Galleria in 2021 and only because of COVID concerns. Since then, it’s been to Atlanta and Nashville before heading to Dallas this July.And the football championship never looked back when it moved east to Atlanta in 1994.
Memphis is a fine city but how are you going to replicate the temporary community that comes to Hoover every May? They have a beautiful downtown ballpark, long considered a gem of the minor league.
