By Mark SimpsonThe GAA has confirmed that the Casement Park redevelopment will not be completed in time for the 2027 Ulster Gaelic football final.
There had been hopes among some GAA supporters that the Ulster senior football final would be played at the west Belfast stadium in 2027.On Tuesday at the Northern Ireland Assembly, the Newry and Armagh assembly member Justin McNulty invited Communities Minister Gordon Lyons to join him at the "newly-built" Casement Park in 2027 for the Ulster final.
His party colleague, MP Jim Shannon, has suggested the overall cost of redeveloping Casement could be £220m.pledged €50m to the redevelopmentAt the same time, the GAA confirmed the ground would not be ready for the Ulster final, which is currently played at Clones in County Monaghan.Stephen McGeehan, the head of operations at Ulster GAA, outlined the timetable for the planned redevelopment of Casement Park."The main contract of work will begin later in the year.
