A cat which went missing after leaving its home has been reunited with its owners - after a decade. Smokey, now 11, was around a year old when Sam Hope first adopted him, in or around 2014, after finding him on the street.
Sam, who now lives in Beeston, lived in Jacksdale in the north of the county at the time he adopted Smokey with an ex-partner. At the time, the couple were in the habit of adopting cats and owned two others. Six months later, Sam says they saw Smokey, and he looked well-fed, so they assumed he had been taken in by a new owner. Ten years or so passed, and Sam, no longer with his partner, moved to Nottingham in 2020 and Beeston in 2024.
Incredibly, Smokey had been rescued after he starting turning up regularly to the Boots factory in Beeston, and staff members began to feed him. He was taken in eventually by a staff member, but again didn't settle in well, so Cat Patrol was called after social media posts failed to locate an original owner.He said: "It's really weird. I'd literally been talking to someone about taking on kittens just two weeks before, after thinking about cats for ages.
