Slaven Bilic discusses tomorrow’s watfordfc game with Blackburn, including a fresh injury for Craig Cathcart
As a number of players file back into the dressing from the treatment room, Slaven Bilic has seen Craig Cathcart head in the opposite direction ahead of tomorrow’s game with Blackburn Rovers at Vicarage Road.
“Craig injured his groin in training earlier this week. It’s nothing major but enough that he won’t play tomorrow,” said Bilic.Having lost one captain, Bilic does have another by his side though as Tim Cleverley played 45 minutes for the Under-21s against Crewe on Tuesday and is set for first-team action for the first time since August.
“Players are coming back. Not all of them but the majority of them. We have a few big games coming up and now we can start to look at players being able to play half an hour, 20 minutes, an hour. It requires a lot of work and planning with reports from the medical team.“We are getting back to the level of quantity, and especially quality, that we were craving only a few weeks ago. It will just take days now to bring them back in, give them game time, get everything to gel.
It was only a week ago that Joao Pedro was back in the team, coming on as a second-half substitute at Reading.“He also suffered a similar tackle at Reading to the one that injured him initially, only five minutes after coming on, and thankfully nothing happened. Now the task for Bilic and his coaching staff is to juggle the need for points and players on the pitch with the avoidance of rushing them back too soon which could lead to more injuries.
“We need the players fully fit, confident, in a good mood and not thinking about can’ I play in this game or that game’, or ‘do I have to save myself for five minutes in a game because we still have 40 minutes to go’.
