The Gettysburg man had a law enforcement badge on when he tried to stop the children.
A Gettysburg man is charged with impersonating a police officer after he tried to detain three children by a creek in Freedom Township in late May, state police said.
According to a police report, the children were walking near Sachs Covered Bridge when one of them asked Jason La Barre, 53, if he caught anything fishing. La Barre pointed to a badge on his waist and told them they were being detained for trespassing and causing a disturbance. He also asked the children, ages 12, 13 and 15, to present him with their fishing licenses, even though they were not fishing and had no fishing equipment on them.
