As of Monday, May 6, 2024 the parking lot at West Gulf Place and the resident parking lot at East Gulf Place have been closed to allow the setup for the Hangout Music Festival to begin.
) - Those heading to Gulf Shores for a beach day over the next couple of weeks may find it comes with a few challenges. With the Hangout Music Festival just around the corner, two of the main beach parking lots have already been shut down. Beachgoers must also contend with an influx of jellyfish and stronger rip currents.
“The big date to really remember is the thirteenth, is when the Gulf Place area there shuts down near the Hangout and then on the sixteenth of May we’ll have to actually close the intersection of 182 and Highway 59 and do the detours and we’ll start doing some one way only traffic on the east side,” explained Grant Brown with the city of Gulf Shores.
“How we deal with it every year is we get our groceries ahead of time. We just kind of stay in or only go places where we can walk for that short time,” said Victoria Motyka.Out on the beach, strong winds over the last week have blown in a lot of Portuguese Man o’ War. The jellyfish pack quite a sting and are recognizable by their bright purplish-blue gas-filled balloon which keeps then afloat and acts as a sail.
