Motorists are being warned over a viral car hack that claims to remove dents using a plunger and hot water, with experts warning it could leave you with a 'hefty bill'

The social media craze for lifehacks reaches many corners, including car maintenance but a viral car hack has experts ringing alarm bells over potential costly consequences. The trick, which involves pouring hot water on a car dent and then using a plunger to pop it out, is rife on TikTok.

Despite appearing as an easy and cheap fix, doing this could inflict more damage on your vehicle in the long run. Swansway Motor Group, a top UK automotive group, cautioned: "You may end up causing irreparable damage to your vehicle, which will undoubtedly result in higher repair costs down the road."

They recommend steering clear of such DIY methods and instead visiting a professional garage for dent removals. Adding their voice to the warnings, they stressed: "Using a plunger to try and pop out car dents may seem like a quick and cost-effective solution, but this approach can often do more harm than good. Car surfaces are designed to be sturdy and resilient, and attempting DIY dent removal with a plunger can lead to unintended consequences.

One key risk is further harming the vehicle's paintwork and structure. When force from a plunger is applied, it could cause the paint to chip or even crack, leading to more expensive repairs later on. Car dents often require specialist tools and know-how for proper repair. Trained professionals come equipped to examine the damage and maintain the car's structural soundness, reports the Mirror.Swansway Motor Group's Accident Repair Centre manager, Mark Trevers remarked: "In the long run, the 'quick fix' of using a plunger can turn into a costly mistake.
