Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca reveals a potential long-term injury to forward Marc Guiu, casting doubt on his availability for the FA Cup fourth round tie against Brighton.
Enzo Maresca 's Chelsea will face Brighton in the FA Cup on Saturday night, but the Blues are dealing with a major injury blow. Maresca revealed that one Chelsea star could be sidelined for 'months' after suffering a 'bad injury' ahead of the cup clash. While Chelsea will be looking to reignite their form after winning just two of their last eight league fixtures, they've been dealt a significant setback in attack.
Maresca confirmed that both Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu picked up injuries during the 2-1 victory over West Ham, with one player potentially facing a lengthy absence. Maresca stated, 'Marc unfortunately has a bad injury. No because we are still waiting. It doesn't look a short injury, it looks a long injury. Exactly how long, we don't know. Probably weeks or months.' Guiu, who likely would have started against Brighton, sustained his injury during the West Ham match. The 19-year-old striker, who joined Chelsea from Barcelona last summer for just £5 million, has been a bright spark, scoring six goals in 13 appearances. His potential absence for an extended period could significantly impact Chelsea's FA Cup and UEFA Conference League aspirations. Despite the setbacks, Maresca expressed confidence in his remaining attacking options, stating, 'Before the last game, we had two strikers, Nico and Marc. Sometimes we adapt also Christo there but in case both of them are out, we are going to find a different solution.
