The Cheshire East Council is introducing a paid parking system for most of its car parks, with the exception of small sites where it is not cost-effective. Almost all car parks will become cash-free, accepting only debit or credit cards. The council will maintain a ' free after three ' policy, eliminating charges after 3pm and before 9am. Residents without driveways or garages can apply for a discounted 12-month permit for specified car parks.
Councilor Mark Goldsmith, who chairs the highways and transport committee, stated that these changes are necessary to ensure fair treatment of towns and to reduce financial burdens on the council
