Abby Mackinnon had been walking two-year-old Gizmo before he was set upon by the large XL bully-type dog on Monday, March 18.
A devastated dog owner has told how her Chihuahua was "ripped" out of her arms and mauled to death in front of her by an XL bully-type dog.
"It started charging towards us and its owner said: 'It's okay, he's just playing'. It then started trying to grab Gizmo's tail and the next minute, Gizmo was out of his harness. "The dog just kept biting Gizmo and I couldn't get it to stop. I was screaming and shouting for help." "I was on top of it and even had my hands in its mouth but it wouldn't let go. Gizmo's squealing suddenly stopped. I knew by that point he had died."
"He never took the right precautions by putting his dog on a leash. Had he done that after the first attack, Gizmo would have still been alive. Top news stories today Officers say inquiries to trace the owner remain ongoing. While the breed of both dogs involved is yet to be confirmed, police say local reports suggest they are XL bullies.
