The judge said she was 'astonished' after the child's mother went on holiday one day before his court date
The sentencing of a 12-year-old boy, who was twice involved in mob violence last month, has been postponed after his mother left for a five-day sunshine break in Ibiza, it has been revealed in court.
Judge Hirst decided to adjourn the sentencing for the two counts of violent disorder and issued a parental summons, requiring the mother to appear before the court when she passes sentence on September 11. Due to his age, the boy's identity cannot be disclosed. The young boy, who was escorted to court by his uncle, had previously confessed to being part of the mob outside the hotel on July 31. A few days later, on August 3, he was seen in a group in Manchester city centre, kicking the windows of a vape shop and hurling a missile at a police van.
"I'm frankly astonished. I will require a full explanation from mum on her decision to go on holiday one day before her 12-year-old son comes to court facing a potential custodial sentence.
