Polarity Care Ltd has submitted an application to Bury Council seeking permission to change the status of the four-bedroom house located on Mowbray Avenue in the Sedgley area. The proposed care home would accommodate three young people, supported by a team of six staff working in rotating shifts.
The application emphasizes the aim of creating a homely environment where children can integrate into the local community and lead as normal a life as possible. The application, scheduled to be reviewed by Bury's planning committee next week, has generated a mixture of responses. 22 objections have been raised by residents, citing concerns about the potential impact on the neighborhood. Some express worries about an increase in crime, noise, and potential violence, as well as antisocial and anti-Semitic behavior. They also fear the children's presence will disrupt the existing community dynamic, limiting children's play and access to local amenities. However, nine residents have expressed support for the plans, highlighting the need for vital supported living for those in need. They argue that the care home will not only address housing shortages for marginalized groups but also promote inclusivity and social responsibility. A Bury Council officer's report, set to be presented to the committee, acknowledges the residents' concerns but emphasizes that the application must be assessed based on planning policies and material considerations. The report states that children in care homes come from diverse backgrounds and face various challenges, and with proper safeguarding procedures in place, it is unreasonable to assume they pose a serious danger to the public. The final decision on the application will be made by the planning committee on Tuesday, January 28th.
