Geopolitical tensions supportive of Western-world suppliers

After battling years of pain, ASX graphite heavyweight Syrah Resources' time increasingly looks to be nigh after it was reported this week that Chinese authorities were set to implement tighter control on sales of graphite.While details on what ‘tighter control' will actually entail aren't clear, the move by Beijing comes as it bans the export of a number of ‘exotic' critical elements to the US.

In Louisiana, the company has built an active anode material production centre that is ramping up to 11,250t per annum production.The ambition down the track is to develop a 45,000tpa annum facility by the back end of the decade and a plus-100,000t venture "long term".
