A man injured during a Christmas Day car incident in London's West End has succumbed to his injuries in hospital. 25-year-old Aidan Chapman was one of four people hurt when a vehicle collided with pedestrians on Shaftesbury Avenue.
Chapman, who was seriously injured in the incident, passed away on New Year's Eve. The Metropolitan Police are now treating Chapman's death as homicide and have disclosed that a post-mortem examination is forthcoming. Paying homage to their son, his grief-stricken parents remarked: "The loss of our beautiful son is a parent's worst nightmare, we are utterly devastated with the loss of Aidan, he enriched everyone's lives. He was a loving, kind, funny soul and the world is a darker place without him. We, his parents, have lost the best part of ourselves."
In related developments, 30-year-old Anthony Gilheaney from Harlow in Essex faced court charges last week, accused of four counts of attempted murder along with several driving offences linked to the crash. Gilheaney is expected to make his next court appearance at the Old Bailey on January 24. With Mr Chapman's passing, the Metropolitan Police have indicated the charges against Gilheaney will be reassessed, reports the Mirror.
