It is fair to say that we can get a bit carried away during Christmas - and rightly so! A Christmas dinner with all the trimmings is that one meal a year that many people dream of so why not over-indulge just this once and help yourself to one more spoonful of stuffing.
However, a big feed of turkey can often leave you feeling sluggish, making it hard for you to enjoy the rest of your evening (or make room for dessert!) What better way to shrug off this feeling and stretch the legs before dessert than grabbing your coats and heading for a family Christmas day walk? Northern Ireland has plenty of gorgeous locations to take in the fresh winter air after your Christmas dinner. Stormont Estate Stormont Estate is in the east of Belfast, on the Upper Newtownards Road. It has beautiful gardens, a variety of walks, fitness and adventure trails, a children's playground, picnic and barbecue areas along with historic buildings. Glenariff Forest Park This park in Co Antrim covers over 1,000 hectares with planted woodland, lakes, outdoor recreation spaces and conservation areas. The timber boardwalk that winds through the glen was first built about 100 years ago. Castlewellan Forest Park, Co Down The park covers 450 hectares of land lying north of the Mourne Mountains. Visitor facilities include the Annesley Garden, Arboretum and the Peace Maze. Rathlin Trail This Co Antrim walk leads from Rathlin harbour to the West Lighthouse including the RSPB Seabird Viewpoint. Rathlin is renowned for its importance for wildlife. Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail This trail in Co Fermanagh is also known as the Stairway to Heaven Walk and the route goes through one of the largest expanses of blanket bog in Northern Ireland. A steep climb is required to reach the viewing platform on Cuilcagh Mountain which provides gorgeous views of the surrounding areas
