Nottinghamshire's prisons will offer festive menus featuring braising steak and salmon fishcakes for Christmas. The Ministry of Justice has confirmed special menus for Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, and Christmas Day across the four major prisons in Nottinghamshire: Lowdham Grange, Whatton, Nottingham, and Ranby. The menus cater to Halal and vegan diets alongside the standard options.
Braising steak and salmon fishcakes are among the menu options that Nottinghamshire 's prisoners will have to choose from this Christmas . The Ministry of Justice has confirmed the festive menus for Nottinghamshire 's prisons, with some also having special menus for Christmas Eve and Boxing Day as well as Christmas Day itself.
Nottinghamshire is home to four major prisons: Lowdham Grange, Whatton, Nottingham and Ranby. Lowdham Grange and Nottingham are both Category B men's prisons, with the former located near the Newark village of Lowdham and the latter located in Sherwood. Whatton and Ranby are both Category C men's prisons, with the former located near Bingham and the latter near Retford. All four prisons have catered for those following a Halal diet and a vegan diet this year, alongside the standard options.A Ministry of Justice spokesperson added: "Meals in prisons over Christmas and New Year are paid for using existing budgets and at no extra cost to the taxpayer.
"Prison rules also require that prisoners are provided with three meals a day that are varied, nutritious and meet the religious, cultural, and medical needs of all. As such, all meals offered to prisoners meet nutritional guidelines as set out by the Food Standards Agency and Department of Health and Social Care." Below are the Christmas menus for all four Nottinghamshire prisons.All serviced with vegetable rice and naan bread, followed by chocolate cake and custard.

Followed by a winter spiced flapjack bar and a bottle of pop.All served with sautéed potatoes, garden peas and sweetcorn. Followed by a satsuma and mince pie.Served with kilted sausage, sage and onion stuffing, roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables and gravy. Followed by Christmas pudding or a chocolate chip muffin and custard.
