Amanda Buchanan, 44, died after suffering serious burns during a fire allegedly started at her work by her ex-boyfriend, police said

A 44-year-old woman who suffered grave injuries before Chula Vista officers pulled her from a burning 7-Eleven store last weekend died at a hospital Friday, police said.

Molina said the suspect — who investigators believe Buchanan previously dated — then lit the fire before driving away from the scene in a dark BMW sedan. Officers arrived and saw smoke billowing from the front doors of the store, Molina said. A woman with significant burns, who was later identified as Buchanan’s coworker, was already outside the building, but officers could hear someone still calling from inside.

Buchanan’s coworker was also taken to a hospital. Molina said she suffered serious injuries but was stable at the hospital Friday.
