The Manchester City playmaker may be the beneficiary of enforced rotation by Pep Guardiola on Tuesday.
Phil Foden will be licking his lips at the chance of scoring for a third game in a row in Tuesday’s Champions League tie against Young Boys.
"Twist in the ankle, we didn't want to take risks with him, he didn't feel comfortable," Guardiola said of Haaland after full-time. “He'll be back maybe Tuesday but maybe next Sunday. I didn't speak with the doctors yet but we will see in the next days how it develops." There are multiple options Guardiola can turn to in regards to the attacking midfield berth. Jack Grealish was the central pin at Aston Villa albeit has played there in just four of his 100 City appearances, and not at all since April 2022. The majestic, ever-malleable Bernardo Silva can also operate there but perhaps will be needed elsewhere.
It’s a role he has so often declared his favourite, having come through the ranks as a No.10 maestro. Foden has in fact played twice in the position this season, including in the 1-0 Premier League win over Newcastle. “There's a lot of responsibility, it's not just about going forward. You have to know what you're doing defensively and know who is around you. But, it's one that I can definitely do and I'm looking forward, if I can play there more often, what I can do in there."
