Clement Taylor, a cherished clothing store in Sutton-in-Ashfield, will be closing its doors after 113 years of serving the community. The store, established in 1912, has been a fixture in the town, providing school uniforms, gifts, and classical menswear. Rising costs and decreased footfall are cited as the primary reasons for the closure.

A longstanding family-owned shop in Sutton-in-Ashfield is closing its doors after 113 years of trading. Clement Taylor, a clothes store providing school uniforms and gifts, has announced its closure, citing a lack of 'footfall' and 'rising costs' as the reason for shutting up shop. The retail store on Brook Street, was originally established in 1912 and also sold classical menswear and accessories.

The store's owner, Pete Haydon, said: 'The reason for closing is the decreased footfall in the town due to neglect, many other businesses closing, and the constant rising costs of running. A spokesperson for the store initially announced the closure in a post on Facebook. In it, they said: 'It is with a heavy heart that after 113 years of trading, we will be closing up shop. We will still be trading for the next few months to clear stock. So come in and grab a bargain. 'We will have huge reductions on most items. We would like to thank our loyal customers over all these years for their support and custom.' The shop's origins date back to the late 1800s, as the founder's father owned a block of shops in Sutton-in-Ashfield. Yet Clement Taylor as we know it today wasn't established until 1912 when Clem (the shops founder) had returned from working in Manchester at a retail store. Since then the shop has been through a number of different owners, yet it has always managed to stay in the Taylor family. After the announcement of the closure, dozens of people have flooded the firm's Facebook to wish the owners well in their future endeavours, as locals of the area talk about their past experiences of shopping at the family-owned business
