A Glasgow bakery business has left a six-figure trail of debt after shutting down a popular bagel shop in the west end of the city.
However, Brooke’s firm, Southside Bagels, has now left an enormous amount of debt to investors, banks and HMRC - files show it went into liquidation in May owing £177,113. Those listed as creditors include four investors who put a combined total of about £60,000 into the initial business. Despite Southside Bagels going under, Brooke’s bakery remains open – under a different company, BBHQ Ltd, which was founded in January of this year.
Brawsome Bagels opened in July 2001 and at one point was reportedly generating in excess of £20,000 a month in bagel sales. It also sold freshly baked cakes.Brooke is an ex-head baker at Edinburgh's Bross Bagels, which went into liquidation in August with debts of £1.2million – £626,000 of which is said to be due in unpaid taxes. Three Bross Bagel outlets continue to trade in the city. Brooke left the company in 2020.
