Cobra Kai is a spin-off series to a popular 1980s movie franchise, but what is the connection between the two and is there a crossover in the works?

Cobra Kai, the martial arts comedy-drama series, first premiered in 2018 on YouTube Red before transitioning to Netflix for its third season in 2021. The show is a sequel to the original The Karate Kid films, created by Robert Mark Kamen.

Set 33 years after the first film, Cobra Kai sees actors Ralph Macchio and William Zakba reprise their roles as Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence. Their rivalry from the original films continues into the series, with both characters striving to outdo each other. For example, a 1947 Ford Convertible that Ralph waxed in the original Karate Kid film made an appearance in an episode of the series. Additionally, a coin from China found in a trunk has sparked fan speculation about possible connections to the films, reports the Mirror.

However, Cobra Kai's co-creator Jon Hurwitz clarified that he is not part of this new venture and confirmed it won't be linked to the popular Netflix series.
