There are tricks to keep in mind while you keep warm, that will be kinder to your wallet.
It’s getting cold out It’s official: autumn has begun. It’ll be music to the ears of Halloween fanatics who love nothing more than lighting a candle and getting cosy with a horror film, but it does mean one thing: temperatures are beginning to drop, and fast. As condensation begins to appear on windows in the morning and seasonal blankets start to come out , some might even have braved turning the heating on.
It’s an old classic: leaving the curtains draping over it, particularly longer ones, will only block the heat from spreading. It’ll actually direct the warmth towards the window rather than towards the home. Keep out any draughts. Any exposed areas will bring in cold air and let that critical warm air escape. Investing in a cheap draught excluder will go a long way in retaining heat. And if you’ve got a pet, don’t forget that things like cat flaps count. Letterboxes, too.
