'The Trap Door' could soon be Royton's hottest new venue.
A Come Dine with Me star could soon launch a new addition into Oldham’s nightlife scene. Mark Fairley, who featured on the hit Channel 4 series with his The Old School BBQ Bus, plans to open a new speakeasy-style bar on Royton high street.
Plans for the new bar were approved by council officers. Only one objection was received, which listed concerns such as traffic, noise, privacy, and an increase in antisocial behaviour in the area including ‘public urination’. Planning officers have responded by banning the use of an upstairs balcony as a smoking area, which has been relocated to the alleyway between the two neighbouring commercial buildings on Middleton Rd in amended plans. The new plans also involve the building of a high fence to shield surrounding residents from unwelcome onlookers and noise.
