The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday launched its Register Anywhere Project (RAP) at the Senate of the Philippines building in Pasay City.
The launching was conducted the same day Comelec Chairman George Garcia, Commissioner Rey Bulay, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri and Senate Secretary Renato Bantug signed a memorandum of understanding for the conduct of RAP from January 30 to 31 at the Senate building.
Among the witnesses to the MOU signing were Senators Nancy Binay, Robin Padilla and JV Ejercito, and Comelec Commissioners Ernesto Maceda Jr., Nelson Celis, and Socorro Inting. "Your Comelec is not afraid to go out of the box, to think out of the box because that is what is necessary to ensure that the voters [are] able to register and later on, that our voters are able to vote," Garcia said in his speech before the MOU signing. This is the fourth government institution where the poll body conducted its new registration project.
Comelec earlier opened RAP at the House of Representatives, Government Service Insurance System, and Department of Social Welfare and Development.
