The row over Springfield Park has been going on since 2012

A former Liverpool Council planning boss branded campaigners “NIMBYs” over an ongoing row about a long delayed community park.

However, former councillor and ex-chair of Friends of Springfield Park group, Tony Concepcion caused a row when he branded campaigners NIMBYs - a phrase used to describe people who oppose developments in their area - and praised the work of the hospital trust. Mr Concepcion had also previously been the chair of Liverpool Council’s planning committee.“I walk through there every day and the transformation is fantastic.

He described it as being “in the home run” and said he understood residents were frustrated and angry. The managing director added: “We will not rest until it’s a park you can be proud of.”
