Anthony Albanese has described Vladimir Putin as 'completely deluded' after the President's recent remarks on the war in Ukraine, as the Prime Minister said Australia is 'open to further support' of Kyiv.

"We remain open to further support but I believe we have given substantial support. I must say this is a bipartisan issue. The former government also provided support when they were in office before the last election," Mr Albanese said. Mr Albanese was earlier asked about comments made by an American four-star general who this week warned the United States could be at war with China in 2025, andafter 34 Chinese planes and nine warships were located near the self-governing island.

"Well quite clearly Australia needs to be in a stronger position in the future than we find ourselves today," Mr Albanese said. "Not talking about just how many dollars, talking about where are our assets, are they the right assets in order to defend ourselves in 2023 and beyond." "With secure borders, where we don't have any disruptive activity because the consequences of it are catastrophic for those men and women who fight for the defence of our land but also for our economy, for our way of life," he said.
