Senator Dan Sullivan supported the move, saying the decision on abortion access should be left to the states.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Monday, June 24, marked the second anniversary of the Supreme Court ’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which effectively overturned Roe v. Wade, sending the decision on the legality of abortion to the individual states.on her website expressing her opposition to the decision and calling it a rollback of protections for reproductive choice.

The press release highlighted efforts Peltola has co-sponsored, including a bill prohibiting restrictions from the government on access to abortion and one requiring that patients are able to get mifepristone prescriptions through telehealth and by mail. She was quoted as saying, “Two years ago, the rights I’ve had over my own body for 50 years – and the rights of women across our country – were suddenly called into question. Thankfully, Alaska law still protects abortion. In DC, I’m working to ensure every American has the right to make their own choices about their own bodies.”

“I’m a pro-life Senator. Obviously, I’ve always viewed the exceptions for rape, incest, life of the mother, but one of the things that I think in the aftermath’s really important now is to focus on areas where there’s actually consensus, and believe it or not, I do think there’s some areas of consensus that have the broad support of Americans, of Alaskans.”

“For example, no taxpayer funding for abortion. That’s referred to as the Hyde Amendment. That’s been in place for four decades now, but then also importantly, to have more programs that can support particularly young women when they choose life, when they choose to have a baby, and that’s in terms of childcare. That’s in terms of services for those women who do that,” Sullivan continued.
