Mexican nationals in Little Italy and Baja California cast their ballots in Mexico's biggest election Sunday, one that is likely to end with the nation's first female president
Hundreds of eager voters lined up to cast their ballots outside the Mexican consulate in San Diego Sunday — the first time for Mexican nationals living abroad in what is considered the largest election in the nation's history. By 7 a.m., the line in Little Italy had wrapped around the block. As the minutes ticked by, it became harder to find the end of it. Every few moments, cheers rang out as another ballot was cast.
San Diego resident Ana Paola Curiel, 31, who lined up as early as 5:30 a.m., agreed. 'I love the idea,' she said. 'I think it's a chance to see a change and a different way of governing.' With the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon taking place at the same time Sunday — in the same downtown area — some Mexican voters had to run twice: to the finish line, and then to the polls.
