An emergency declaration was made in a Queensland town overnight after reports of an armed person, with the siege continuing on Tuesday morning.

Residents in a Queensland town have been warned to lock their doors and remain inside amid reports an"armed person" was in the area.

Residents took to social media saying they had been kept up late into the evening from the sirens and police speaking with the suspect. It comes a day after a man was found dead following a 10 hour stand-off with police in Kirwan, near Townsville, on Monday.Police had attempted to speak with the 50-year-old suspect for several hours, with negotiators heard making announcements over a loud speaker."It was more than a threat, there were actually shots fired last night so we made sure we locked down the place as best as we could," he said.
