Two new characters, Lou and Mick Michaelis, are set to shake things up on Coronation Street. Played by Farrel Hegarty and Joe Layton respectively, the dynamic duo arrive next month with plans to stir trouble for the residents of Weatherfield.
Coronation Street fans are in for a thrilling ride as two new characters , Lou and Mick Michaelis , are set to shake things up on the cobbles. Lou , played by Farrel Hegarty , a former Emmerdale star, and Mick, portrayed by Joe Layton , will arrive in Weatherfield next month, ready to make their mark. ITV has issued a warning to residents, urging them to 'watch their backs' as the Michaelis family moves into Mawdsley Street, right behind Chesney (Sam Aston) and Gemma's (Dolly-Rose Campbell) home.
This marks the first time Coronation Street will expand the drama across the ginnel. Lou makes her entrance on February 12th, quickly befriending Gemma due to their children attending the same school. Mick follows suit on February 14th, but with a shocking twist – he's the man with the silver van who has been tormenting Chesney for weeks. As they grow closer to the Winter-Browns, it becomes evident that Mick and Lou have sinister plans brewing. Adding to the intrigue, the pair have a history with Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), which leads to explosive revelations about his secretive past. Farrel Hegarty, stepping into the role of Lou, expressed her excitement about the character, stating, 'she's an exciting character to play because she's got good and bad parts to her, she's a life force and full of beans'. She further elaborated, 'She's a very colourful person who likes to make waves and try to cause chaos. But she also has that strong family loyalty, especially between Mick and Lou, they are thick as thieves and will stick up for each other, even when they probably shouldn't...' Actor Farrel is no stranger to the small screen. She previously starred alongside Michelle Keegan - known for her role as Tina on Coronation Street - in the Sky comedy Brassic. Farrel shared, 'I went to drama school and did a bit of theatre. I was in Brassic earlier this year and have been in Emmerdale before.' In addition to playing Laura Atkinson in Emmerdale in 2014, Farrel has even made an appearance on Coronation Street in 2019. She disclosed, 'I played a reporter on the Boxing Day episode so it feels like a full circle moment which makes it even more exciting. But this is definitely my first big role.' When asked to describe her character Lou, Farrel responded, 'I don't know if I'd be allowed to say the words that initially come to mind... Irrational, gobby and fiery - but I'd also say loyal too so there's four words!' Coronation Street continues to air Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
