Foodbank manager sounds the alarm at anti-poverty panel discussion
The cost-of-living crisis is likely to be even worse this winter than it was last year, a Northern Ireland foodbank manager has warned.
Ms Mullan, a former Sinn Fein MLA for Foyle, was speaking during a panel discussion organised by the Northern Ireland Anti-Poverty Network at the Guildhall in Derry earlier this week. Rayna Downey, from the Derry Women's Centre, said the coronavirus pandemic, the cost-of-living crisis, low paid work, lack of a childcare strategy and the benefits system have "created the perfect storm where women became the shock absorbers of poverty in their homes".
