The amount of money spent by the Housing Executive on temporary accommodation has grown from zero a decade ago to over £45,000 a day.
Mr Durkan, speaking to Belfast Live, said the issue comes down to "insufficient housing". He described the cost to the public purse, on average, of £45,574 per day on temporary accommodation as "lamentable". "The social cost and the cost to families is massive, as well as this financial cost to the Executive in trying to keep up with the situation. They're just digging deeper into the whole."
