The Brown and Mason Group, responsible for demolishing the former Cottam power station near Retford, has announced upcoming explosions to bring down a major gas flue and test blast the chimney stack and one cooling tower. While these explosions are expected to cause minimal disruption, the demolition of all eight cooling towers is anticipated to be more impactful.
The company demolishing the cooling towers at a decommissioned Nottinghamshire power station has issued an update on when major explosions can be expected. The Brown and Mason Group are responsible for the work and have been sending out letters to residents in the area around the power station.
Much of the work has caused no disruption to the surrounding area, with the latest event taking place at 12pm on Thursday . A series of explosions are expected in a time period of around 10 seconds, which will see a major gas flue come down under "controlled conditions." The demolition of the cooling towers themselves is likely to cause more disruption. A firm date for their demolition has not yet been set, with the latest letter reading: "The other main structures including the chimney and cooling towers are scheduled for explosive demolition during the project, further details on these milestones will be provided nearer the time.
