The crumble-risk concrete was discovered in the assembly hall in February 2023

A committee was this week told works to replace Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete found in Perth Grammar School's assembly hall roof cost Perth and Kinross Council £500,000.

It later emerged RAAC was found at Perth Grammar in February 2023 and PKC had known of concerns about RAAC since May 2019 but said "there was no specific government advice at this time". Providing an update on works at Perth Grammar School, PKC's head of Business and Resources Greg Boland said: "It's a rolling programme of works to invest in and improve the school. We completed in October the replacement of the assembly hall roof.Perth City Centre councillor Peter Barrett asked if the additional £500,000 identified for Perth Grammar roof was "RAAC associated" and "if there was sufficient capacity" to fund this.

"The work's now complete. The £500,000 came out of the fund we had for the programmed upgrading of the school. Within that we had allocated sums for the roof so some of those have now been expended."Mr Crawford clarified: "The roof has been dealt with but effectively the making good of some associated electrics, partitioning and decoration to complete the project will continue.
