Huntsville-born Johnson took the time to gives thanks to Texas artists like Roger Creager, Kevin Fowler and Cory Morrow, who he said taught him the ropes. And Johnson takes pride in not letting Nashville take the Texas out of him.“My dream was always to be the guy that bridged the gap,” he said, “that came from Texas to Nashville and said, ‘Look, you’re not going to change me. This is who I am.’” He said he could show other kids from Texas that “you don’t have to be labeled a Texas artist.
Those set to perform at the ACM Awards include Johnson, McCollum, McEntire and for the first time, Malone, as well as Kane Brown, Jelly Roll, Miranda Lambert, Thomas Rhett, Chris Stapleton, Lainey Wilson, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, Noah Kahan, Kelsey Ballerini and more.
