‘I really wanted to breathe life into this beautiful old house.’ 🏚➡️🏠 And that's exactly what Laura and Eddy have done after they turned a 'rotting' five-bed semi-detached into their 'forever home'. And added an extra £300,000 to the value too.
When the pandemic put their wedding on hold, couple Laura and Eddy decided to use the money for their big day on a five-bedroom house with rotting walls.
Laura said she unearthed ‘many horrors’ when renovating, but added: ‘The journey has been incredibly hard, but so rewarding.’supports HTML5 videoLaura said: ‘We had a big wedding planned that we had saved for a long time, but because of the cancellation, we decided to invest in our future and put towards buying our forever home instead.’She says: ‘I wanted it to be safe for years to come, as well as being more sustainable and energy efficient.
After brainstorming ideas – as well as roping in Laura’s dad to help who runs a construction company – they got to work on a tight budget. She says: ‘In between the sale of our first home and purchase of the farmhouse, I fell pregnant. ‘A full re-wire and complete new plumbing system has also been done and we wanted to convert to a more sustainable energy source, so we removed the old oil heating system and had a renewable energy source installed. The couple also demolished internal walls downstairs to create a new layout, adding steel beams to support the floor above.
Laura said: ‘We did encounter a number of issues – but luckily nothing that caused any major setbacks.‘The internal walls had been filled in with wood that was now rotting, as well as bits of rubble where they had obviously run out of bricks. Laura and Eddy’s impressive renovation has also seen them go viral on TikTok, where Laura shared their journey with her 123,600 followers.Although they still have some more work to do on the house, the couple are thrilled with how it’s coming along.
