Dutch child rapist Steven van de Velde was booed by members of the crowd in his 2024 Olympic Games beach volleyball debut.

However, he only served one year of that sentence before returning home to the Netherlands where he underwent a 'specialist treatment programme'.
However, after a European warrant was issued for Van de Velde's arrest, he was extradited to the UK in January 2016, with the court case held in March the same year. There, Van de Velde pleaded guilty to three counts of child rape.
