A musical theatre couple who work and reside on a cruise ship reveal their secret to a happy and successful life at sea: mutual respect and a clean living space.
A couple who share both their home and their work aboard a cruise ship have revealed their secret to a harmonious life at sea. Daniel and Thomas Schlordt, both 32, met when they were 18, with Daniel studying musical theatre at Guildford School and Thomas attending the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. After graduating, they both launched careers on the stage, eventually discovering a shared love for the ocean and integrating it with their passion for music and entertainment.
Daniel and Thomas tied the knot in Dundee in 2017. While celebrating their honeymoon on a Marella cruise in the Cayman Islands, they fell head over heels for the cruising lifestyle. During the pandemic, they launched a social media presence on YouTube and TikTok, using their platform to showcase their love for musical theatre by writing and performing their own songs 365 days a year. Their captivating performances garnered 2.4 million views and even caught the eye of 'Britain's Got Talent' producers, leading to an audition on the popular show. After taking a holiday in Hawaii in early 2022, the couple realized they wanted to pursue their passions full-time - entertainment and travel. Having lived together for 14 years in London and Edinburgh, they joined Marella Cruises in 2022, moving into the same cabin where they now live and work together seven days a week. Daniel remarked, 'We live together and are lucky to work with one another, both in day-to-day life and in our day-job entertaining the customers on board'. Their secret to success, as Thomas explained, is 'Through mutual respect for one another and keeping our cabin clean!'. Daniel added, 'Sharing our wash load by taking it in turns and keeping our cabin space a place of solace on board the ship is important when working and living together'. Thomas further emphasized, 'Having a place which is zen for us is super important, especially when we just want to spend time with one another.' Daniel and Thomas were able to perform the cruise line's first-ever same-sex couple show, titled 'Somebody to Love'. This high-quality production paid homage to rock legends, Queen, and featured a repertoire of their iconic music. The show followed the journey of a same-sex couple facing the challenges of openly expressing their relationship to the world. Thomas shared, 'We thought we'd never be able to perform openly together, but we were able to do it on stage aboard the Marella Explorer with Marella Cruises!
