After nearly 25 years as CEO, Paul Perreault is stepping down. This is what he learnt from a decade running one of Australia’s biggest companies.

from the Melbourne headquarters of the biotech behemoth on his 66th birthday earlier this week.“It’s one of those things I look back and think: ‘Gee, I really wish that had worked out’,” the CEO who calls Park City, Utah home, says.

“There were tears. These people have been waiting for decades for this, we have to execute precisely and it’s an important new therapy that will change people’s lives forever.”“I didn’t replace myself as president of CSL Behring [Perreault’s role when he was appointed CEO]. I said: ‘I’ve been doing this. I’ve already got a team, I can manage this.’ I probably took on a little too much coming in.

“He said: ‘But you’re the CEO.’ I said: ‘Yeah, my job is not to sell you stock. If you want to talk about the strategy, the portfolio, where we are headed and you like what you hear then please buy the stock. But if not, I’ve got plenty of shareholders.’ He was shocked and said: ‘I’ve never heard a CEO say that’.

“I come from one of eight kids, so I’m used to being around a lot of people, talking to people and arguing with people.”“I never had a plan to become a CEO. One thing that helped me in this role was that I had a lot of different roles coming up. I was in operations, I did some finance, I did sales and marketing.

“I’ve taken my wife and the kids to patient events to let them know what I do,” he says. “To say ‘look how important this is, we are saving lives’, so that when dad’s away they know this is why I’m doing what I do.Advertisement

‘Moron’ dispatcher ‘too dense’ to understand Paul Pelosi was in danger: Megyn Kelly‘Moron’ dispatcher ‘too dense’ to understand Paul Pelosi was in danger: Megyn KellyThe Megyn Kelly Show host Megyn Kelly says the 911 dispatcher who responded to Paul Pelosi’s call for help sounded ready to hang up on him and “did not know what she was doing”. It follows the release of footage from the home invasion which saw the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi attacked with a hammer. Ms Kelly said the phone operator was “too dense” to understand Mr Pelosi was in danger. “They didn’t release that tape, what they told the public was ‘she handled it brilliantly, her sixth sense just told her something was wrong’,” she told Sky News host Paul Murray. “So none of us understood that the police who showed up there did not have the proper sense of urgency because they had been informed by some moron that ‘I don’t know what is going on, the guy is confused’. “That is why the guy got attacked ultimately, that is why we all were befuddled at the police lack of urgency and the fact that Paul Pelosi was kind of standing there holding hands with the guy holding the hammer at the same time.”

‘Migrants will decide’ if constitution will change for Indigenous Voice: Paul Murray‘Migrants will decide’ if constitution will change for Indigenous Voice: Paul MurrayMigrants will be the ones to decide whether the constitution should be changed to include an Indigenous Voice to Parliament, says Sky News host Paul Murray. “According to the census, there are more than seven and a half million Australians that were born somewhere else,” Mr Murray said. Mr Murray said there were 17 electorates that voted ‘No’ in the same-sex marriage plebiscite a few years ago and most of the ones that voted ‘No’ had a “significant migrant population”. “We certainly know that there is a different relationship between multi-generational Australians and new Australians as to the questions around things like Australia Day and of course the wide issues about whether or not there need to be Indigenous recognition in the constitution,' he said. “So all polls still point to the idea that ‘Yes’ will win but if ‘Yes’ it doesn’t, or if it’s close, don’t be surprised if the communities of colour are the ones who made it so.'
