D.C. police officers at a new command center were able to monitor a chaotic incident on a Metro platform in real-time through surveillance videos and live feeds.

At its official unveiling, Mayor Muriel E. Bowser announced plans to add hundreds of additional surveillance cameras operated by the city, and a new effort to integrate thousands more cameras from private businesses, apartment complexes and homes throughout the District. In addition, the mayor’s next budget proposes $322,000 to increase incentives for surveillance cameras at private businesses. Mark Ein, who owns Kastle Systems, one the largest security companies in the District, said he has committed to making 1,000 cameras available to businesses in the city.
