Graham Wilson struck twice to break Arthurlie hearts and claim his sixth winners medals in the competition.
Graham Wilson hit a Darvel double to seal the Ayrshiremen a first Scottish Junior Cup triumph in their 135-year history - then admitted he was RANK ROTTEN.
With the Ayrshire village set to party Wilson joked he’d lock down team mate Stephen Bronsky who is due on an early morning flight back to a family holiday in Gran Canaria. Former Elgin and Dumbarton defender Bronsky flew home from the Canaries on Friday to make sure he didn’t miss the big occasion. After a lengthy delay to clear a frenzy of flares launched onto the park, it was Arthurlie who carried the greater threat in the opening stages. Powerful Lie frontman Anson was inches away from an opener when his cheeky backheel from Dylan Dykes’ cross just cleared the bar.
Colin Reilly’s men had Darvel exactly where they wanted. Yet, within five minutes, the Vale were level through their own prolific marksman. Mark Sideserf’s cross was brilliantly brought down on his chest by Leon Murphy and his effort was turned in from two yards by Wilson. Sub Ross Caldwell stood up a brilliant cross from the right to the back post where the seasoned hitman found space to head home from two yards. Darvel caretaker David Winters vowed to stick around at Recreation Park under the new management team after delivering the club’s biggest honour in just a month in charge.
“I believe more than anything in that group of players and I said to them throughout the season we could beat anyone. There's a new management team coming in. I might be the odd ball of the group but I'll give everything just like I always do.”
