The temporary appointment of the 17-year employee follows months of turmoil in an understaffed office leaving the accuracy of the court’s records in question.
Patti Sites takes the oath of office to become acting Dauphin County clerk of courts with President Judge Scott A. Evans Monday morning.Patti Sites took an oath to lead the office as acting Clerk of Courts until Governor Josh Shapiro makes a more lasting appointment, per Pennsylvania law.
Sites departed the office in January after Bridget Whitley won election to the job and took office. Whitley, the first Democrat to ever occupy the seat, entered her tenure by announcing Cole Goodman, the vice-chair of the Dauphin Democratic Party, as her first deputy. Bridget Whitley, the elected Clerk of Courts, accepted a resignation from Cole Goodman, her first deputy, Friday afternoon. Immediately after, she fired Rogette Harris, her second deputy, and then resigned from her position herself.
Evans said the contempt hearing’s purpose was to determine where the Clerk of Courts Office was and how to move forward, and with the resignations of this year’s administration, he canceled the hearing.
