Labour must offer hope in the next three weeks - there are small but vital steps it can take

As we head towards the midpoint of the general election and the manifestos start to emerge, let us hope that theDon’t expect great surprises, though. Especially from Keir Starmer and the Labour Party, because everyone has learned the lessons of the 2017 election, when Theresa May sprung the “dementia tax”, a proposal relating to social care, on the electorate, which she was later forced to U-turn on.

Whilst it is not an insuperable problem, Labour also has a clumsy, if necessary, policy process to go through, which other parties are free from. This starts with what is known as the Policy Forum – a consultation with party members, the public, businesses, experts and civil society groups. It met over the course of last year to lay out a rough guide for the manifesto.
