Suraj Singh said he was dealing for someone else who paid him in cannabis
A drug dealer was caught red handed when a police officer stopped to exercise his police dog in the car park of Fulwood Leisure Centre. Suraj Singh, 35, was sitting in a parked VW Golf at 8.45pm on March 11, 2021, when PC Baker decided to stop to walk the dog.
He was searched and had £477 cash on him, along with 33g of cannabis and two mobile phones. Singh was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis. He gave his father's address in Clairaine Avenue, Fulwood, which was also searched. Officers found 320g of cannabis, with a street value of between £3250 and £4500 in the garage and a brief case full of cash - although it was later accepted this had nothing to do with drug dealing.
Tom Lord, defending, told the court Singh now has "abstinence at the front of his mind" and has given up smoking cannabis since his arrest. He said the father-of-one was a hard worker who is in the process of setting up a call centre and was prepared to take any sentence the court imposed.
