The UK will begin 10 days of mourning following the passing of the Queen
Today as the attention of the world turns to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the UK will be launched into a series of 10 days of official mourning, delivered with full honours and with the sort of pomp and ceremony the British royalty are renowned for.
Prince Charles is now king and his siblings have gathered to formally accept his position by kissing his hands. A proclamation will then be read at St James’ Palace and the Royal Exchange in the City of London, confirming Charles as king of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. Then the coffin will be carried up the Royal Mile to St Giles’s Cathedral for a service of reception, before being put on board the Royal Train at Waverley station for the progress down the east coast mainline if possible. If not, Operation OVERSTUDY will be triggered, meaning the coffin will be transferred by plane.
Tuesday, September 13, 2022: D-Day+5 The Queen’s coffin will be taken in procession from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster along a ceremonial route through London and a service will be held in Westminster Hall following the coffin’s arrival. Saturday, September 16, 2022: D-Day+8 The vigil in the Palace of Westminster comes to an end with prayers.
