A decades-old murder case in Boston has reached a significant point, but a final resolution remains pending. Steven Fike, 65, was scheduled to plead guilty to manslaughter in the 1980 killing of Wendy Dansereau, but unresolved matters in the plea agreement led to a postponement of the hearing until March.
An Alabama man, Steven Fike, 65, who was arrested in 2022 in connection with a decades-old Boston murder, was scheduled to plead guilty to manslaughter on Monday. However, at a court hearing in Suffolk Superior Court, the matter was not finalized. The judge noted unresolved issues within the plea agreement, leading to a continuation of the hearing until March. Fike had been incarcerated in Alabama since 1982 for rape and murder, but was eligible for parole.
Wendy Dansereau, a 19-year-old sex worker, was found dead at the Hotel Diplomat in Boston's South End in 1980. She had been sexually assaulted and strangled, with a red blouse wrapped around her neck. Prosecutors allege that Dansereau met Fike the night before her death. Upon checking into the hotel, Fike used a false name. DNA evidence collected during the initial investigation, which was later entered into an FBI database, matched Fike's genetic profile, ultimately leading to his identification as Dansereau's killer. At the time of Fike's indictment, Rachael Rollins, then the Suffolk County district attorney, stated, 'Ms. Dansereau was 19 years old when she was murdered, and her family has waited nearly four decades to know what happened to her.
