) - The Alabama Department of Transportation has announced that the demolition of the Beach Express Bridge toll plaza is scheduled to start tonight, Sunday, June 16.ALDOT says the demolition by McInnis Construction LLC of Summerdale will take place in several stages.
On Sunday night from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Monday, temporary traffic shifts will take place with northbound traffic redirected to the east bypass lane and southbound traffic will move to the easternmost through lane under the plaza. Construction will start by removing toll booths 1, 2 and 3 and patch the areas.
On Monday, once patching is done for all three toll booths, traffic will shift back to the west side of the plaza. The removal of toll booth 4 and the bypass booth will begin, followed by patching of the area. Then, on Tuesday night from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Wednesday, a detour will be placed so that the awning can be removed.
