The imminent arrival of advanced Western vehicles appears to have spooked Russia's President as his own forces dwindle.
The desperate move comes amid reports Russia has lost thousands of tanks in its year-long invasion of Ukraine.
A March intelligence update from the UK Ministry of Defence confirmed that Russia had been using"vintage" tanks in response to"heavy armoured vehicle losses". This was followed by recent revelations from Britain that Russian BTR-50 armoured personnel carriers, which have been in use since 1954, had been spotted in Ukraine for the first time.
